Synchronicity

Synchronicity, Animals & Birds
Synchronicity
"Synchronicity" is a painting that has essentially lived in my studio for 10 months. I rarely have a painting actively in progress for that long, but this one was special. I gave myself the luxury of time, enjoyment and meaning. The piece was to be delicate with a dreamlike, mythological quality. Feeling and intuition took the center stage as the “Synchronicity of Nature” became the theme.
The viewer gets the feeling that the moon, swans, water and the sky are all working in unison. One wouldn’t….couldn’t exist without the other. They carry pieces and parts of each other simultaneously and in "Synchronicity". The moon illuminates through the swans, and energies their journey as the others are emerging from the water. One could imagine they are transforming from water into glorious swans, and then possibly into moonlight. Soaring through the air, they have remnants of the sea attached, which they will keep with them forever. This is an abundant, joyous and natural world.
During the long course of this painting, I became friends with a conservationist and photographer. His family owns a large tract of land on the Rappahannock River and has done a wonderful job protecting it as a preserve for wildlife. He and his family carefully study and photograph the water fowl on a daily basis. It was so fun to share his enthusiasm briefly when I had the opportunity to visit the farm. As time would pass, he would send me photos of interest which always included these great White Swans. They were beautiful! I studied the birds carefully, and tried to understand some of their ways and movements. I knew my swans would be simplified and or exaggerated, to create a meaningful connection artistically, and was appreciative for his insights. He was clearly an inspiration.
It is interesting to look around, and see how people are connecting with and or preserving nature. Some people are more inspirational than others, and some are more consumed than others. Some are judgmental, while others choose to educate and inspire. Many are quiet, personal and introspective, while others create social movements.
Imagine a world where working with nature was our instinct on creating wealth, wellness and power? It is obvious to me that we ARE nature. What is your response to nature?
