In my landscape work, I seek to capture the way a place made me feel. I do this by playing with the texture of impasto acrylic and the orientation of my brushstrokes. I use a limited colour palette in my pieces mixing various hues to explore “light” and the ways it can elicit an emotional response but also create a mood in the work itself.
There is an ethereal quality to snow as the darkness rises and it glows in the light of the moon. Some nights, after the sun sets, St. Nicholas Peak rests majestic basking in this moon lit sky. In this reimagining of that experience, I am inspired by Lawren Harris’ use of light. "Light” in this piece, acts as an incorporeal tool to bring the vividness of the snow, the dark stone and gravel to life. Diverging from the anticipation of darkness that one might expect to see in the night.
