Sunset on the Farm

Sunset on the Farm, Plein Air Landscapes
Sunset on the Farm
The second of 2 sunset paintings from this trip (and indeed the first sunsets I have ever done) the clarity of the night and brief period in which I had to complete this taught me so much about painting. This is the first pleinair work I've done that has involved any artificial light, which can be seen as a streetlight or a glowing window shining through the treeline where I was staying on the coast. I don't actually know what it was, but I do know that portraying that indelicate relationship; the mingling of nature and modern man, as a beautiful thing has since helped me find a renewable energy living in a metropolis. By this I mean a deeper appreciation for the reverse situation; small bits of nature perservering through sidewalks; moments of beautiful light reflecting off of our structures; or the call of a bird from a powerline.
