Live Oak with Cactus in the Late Afternoon

This landscape was inspired by a magnificent live oak tree growing near my home in the Texas Hill Country. I was especially intrigued by the winding branches, the scattered clusters of ball moss, and the tiny cactus growing between the branches on top of the main trunk. To accentuate the many textures and color variations in the scene, I chose afternoon lighting, with its deep shadows and golden highlights.
