Green River, North Carolina

One of the most famous sections of rivers for whitewater enthusiasts is the Narrows of the Green River, near Saluda North Carolina. This is the crux sequence of rapids for those who kayak this river.

This is my first attempt painting this river. A place I have kayaked and photographed for 10 years. In the past 8 months since I began painting, I have been working up to being able to paint these places that are oh so dear to my heart. I hope that the painting conveys the power of the water, the trepidation one feels when venturing into this canyon, but juxtaposed with the sunlight hitting the lip of the top-most drop… that it also communicates the joy and ecstasy that we kayakers feel as we commit ourselves to the river, breath deep to lean into the moment at the lip of the waterfall and embrace whatever may come.
