Autumn in Vermont is a meditative time of serene beauty. Cool crisp days of hiking and outdoor living and warm cozy nights around the fire. Birch trees abound in areas which once were cleared for farming and are slowly being reclaimed by the hardwood forests. As the forest ages the birches end their lives in a muffled swish as they fall softly through the branches of the long life hardwoods and land on the forest floor or in a nearby stream.
